Bowling with Buster and Chester

Dunedin Lanes, 405 Patricia Ave., Dunedin. July 23, 6-9 p.m. $30, plus one bag of non-scoopable litter for every raffle ticket you want. Event on Facebook.

Every time I visit an animal shelter, I want to adopt all the animals and spay all the humans. The reality is I can’t care for all the animals I want, and the best way I’ve found to help cast-off animals is by supporting a worthy organization. Enter Suncoast Animal League and the 6th Annual Bowling with Buster and Chester. You remember SAL, right? They traveled to Redland and brought back some 70-plus abandoned dogs and proceeded to get them medical care and find them homes? Yeah, those guys. They raise money by having all sorts of fun events throughout the year, and this weekend, it’s bowling. While I don’t think we actually get to bowl alongside dogs — but wouldn’t that be cool? — the price of admission gets you three glo-bowl games, ball and shoe rental. Suncoast Animal League will have a raffle, and every time you outbowl their executive director, Rick Chaubody, you get an extra raffle ticket. Word on the street is that he’s much better at rescuing animals than he is at bowling.
