Carmada Art Car Fest looking for a few good (or not so good) cars!

In Tampa Bay, we spend a lot of time driving. Too much, according to almost anyone you could ask. Creative Pinellas director Mitzi Gordon has one solution that can't get defunded by Rick Scott — if you can't spend less time in your car, you can at least make it a little more interesting to everyone around you by turning it into a work of art.

She made her own ride into a rolling meta-commentary with the help of local drawer/humorist Hunter Payne, and back during March's Gasparilla Festival of the Arts she launched Carmada, an exhibit/project intended to get others to jump on the bandwagon.

Part of the first Carmada event was the live transformation of a plain-jane rustbucket into a piece of rolling art, and now she's inviting volunteers to get the same treatment in preparation for the next Carmada event, to be held Sept 27 between the Mahaffey Theater and Dali Museum in St. Pete.

To nominate your own harbinger of humanity's self-inflicted apocalypse happy go-go wheelmobile for a little facelift, you can email [email protected], or send a Twitter or Facebook message with the hashtag #CARMADA.
