Hey everybody out there in webland. It's been a really long time since I've done one of these, but I saw this video on Youtube and I literally can't help myself any longer. If you can't remember the rules of how this works. I pick my favorite 5 videos from the week on Youtube and then I snark all over the place on them. Some of them I like, some of them I hate. For a more complete explanation, check out my first post.
- Sesame Street: Smell Like A Monster – SesameStreet
What's on Youtube that both you and your toddler can enjoy? Sesame Street pays homage to one of this year's most successful advertising campaigns. That's right, everybody. I'm talking about Old Spice. While Grover doesn't have the same allure as frontman Isaiah Mustafa, I couldn't rip my eyes away from his blue, fuzzy chest for his whole lesson about the word "on." Did you miss the lesson? Don't worry about it, the 3-year-olds got the lesson, but other than the "on my nose" joke, they missed the humor you saw.
- Charlie Crist's Comically Bad First Pitch – therealcharliecrist
I feel like this would be an appropriate time to make a joke about claiming to stay in the middle ground while really veering off to the left (our left, his right). But here's the real problem. That ball was never going to go straight. He wanted it to stay in the middle, but when it came to blows, Crist just couldn't make it happen. He let go too early, went loop-dee-loop and we were left a bit unsatisfied…by his pitch.
- Cyanide & Happiness – Repulsel – ExplosmEntertainment
There's a difference between irreverent and obscene, but I'm not entirely sure which side of the line this one falls on. It's certainly popular, getting just under 1 million hits in less than a week, but why? It reminded me a bit of some of the schtick in the Justin Long/Ryan Reynolds fratboy favorite Waiting… You know, they try and trick each other into looking at each other's junk. It's not much funnier when you turn it into an animated fairytale spoof. Or maybe I missed something.
- DAS DÜMMSTE WORT EVER – DieAussenseiter
I'm still waiting on some exact information about what's going on in this video, but even without understanding any German at all, there's something I find hilarious about a boy dressed as Waldo reading a list of words with a German accent. I dare you to watch this and keep a straight face. I know I can't.
- Surprise Party – crgmorgan
It took me a good minute of video to realize that this guy was lip-syncing better than Ashlee Simpson. This particular sketch was borrowed from Saturday Night Live and the voice belongs to the lovely Kristen Wiig. My particular favorite part comes at about 2:30 when he starts shoving crackers in his mouth and still keeps pace with the dialogue. I'm also a fan of the screaming that comes at 3:20. His facial expressions are absolutely priceless and nearly 3 million people this week seem to agree with me.
What have you seen recently that's worth talking about? What's going viral and worthy of catching? Let me know!
