Chelsea Handler is coming to Clearwater on a tour supporting her first memoir, Life Will Be The Death Of Me, but the 44-year-old comedian, actress, author, TV host and producer didn’t even know that Clearwater was a place on Earth.
Handler admitted as much on Tuesday night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. During her interview with Fallon, Handler talked about myriad things, including dog fights, showing her boobs and checking her own white privilege. She also said that Clearwater literally was not on her radar until the tour sit-down comedy tour got booked.
“[A sit-down comedy tour] is when I don’t get up because I’m tired,” Handler joked. She added that she’ll be interviewed by different people in each city, including Natasha Lyonne (New York) and Melissa McCarthy (Los Angeles). A spokesperson at Ruth Eckerd Hall, where Handler will kick off the tour on May 16, said that they’re trying to figure out who’ll do the questioning in Clearwater, but Handler admitted that she wasn’t even aware of the Bay area municipality until she got booked to speak there.
“I’m coming to Clearwater, Florida — that’s a new city I found out about,” Handler exclaimed.
“You didn’t know about Clearwater?,” Fallon laughed. “That’s great.”
“No. I’d heard about it,” Handler replied, “but now I’m gonna know about it.”
Clearwater, we’ll have you know, is spring training home to the Philadelphia Phillies, but it’s also where men attack roomates with machetes, beat pastors to death and get arrested for protesting Scientology.
Tickets to the May 16 show are on sale now and start at $72.50. More information is available via rutheckerdhall.com. Watch the Fallon interview below. There aren't a lot of Scientologists offering personality tests around Ruth Eckerd, so at least there's that.
