The sixth annual Gasparilla International Film Festival was this intern’s first time attending the event. I had been genuinely excited about going since finding out I would be covering the festival — press pass and all. Late Saturday afternoon, my friend Miles (who I brought along as my +1) and I headed over to CinéBistro at Hyde Park to watch some movies.
Upon arriving at the theater, and after several minutes of aimlessly walking because Miles and I apparently can’t spot large buildings that are directly in front of us, I emailed my editor something along the lines of, “This is nothing like I had expected, I’m kind of freaking out.” I had never been to the CinéBistro, and still wasn’t sure exactly how the screenings worked. One obvious thing, though, was that Miles and I were heinously underdressed. It felt like showing up for a costume party, the theme being “upper class,” and not seeing that part of the invite.
