Comeback comes up short, Rays fall to Detroit 2-3

It was a disappointing afternoon for Rays fans, as their favorite team lost to the Detroit Tigers while they were at work, coming up short in a ninth-inning comeback attempt with the final score of 2-3. Rays starter Matt Garza took the loss, his record going to 11-7 on the year. He was tagged for all three of the Detroit runs, pitching through five and a third innings while yielding seven hits and three walks and striking out four hitters.

The Tigers scored first in the second inning, with Miguel Cabrera leading off with a double and being singled home by Brandon Inge two outs later. The Rays however, left a man in scoring position with one out or less in four of the first five frames including a lead off double in the fifth by Kelly Shoppach followed by strikeouts from Dan Johnson and Ben Zobrist and a fly to left by Carl Crawford.
