Margaret Cho is currently enjoying the success of her new VH1 sitcom, The Cho Show, a quasi-real take on the Korean American comic's day to day adventures, among them, a mother-daughter "Cho-Universe Pageant" that embraces all types of beauty and features contestants who aren't necessarily related, including Cho and her 3-foot-10-inch assistant/burlesque entertainer, Selene Luna; a visit to an anal bleaching salon; and a camping trip she organizes for her and her gang as a way to reconnect with nature and disconnect from modern luxuries, like beds and hot food. All are the sort of situations Cho addresses in her stand-up brought to zany and colorful life.
Cho discusses society's rigid and unattainable beauty standards in her latest "Beautiful" tour, which stops at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center this Thursday evening. Special guest comedian Liam Sullivan provides support with his own character-driven antics. Margaret Cho's Beautiful Tour, Thurs., Sept. 25, 8 p.m., Carol Morsani Hall-TBPAC, 1010 N. MacInnes Place, Tampa, $28.50 and $48.50, 813-229-7827.
