The holidays in Tampa Bay make for interesting times.
For starters, it’s almost always still hot, which makes looking at Christmas trees a bit strange. Our part of the country is also a melting pot of international cultures, and the place where every person who ever got sick of New York and Boston moved to. That mix makes for a truly one-of-a-kind menagerie of fashion, odor and #AssaultLife window stickers.
But Tampa Bay during the holidays is just like the rest of the country at this time of year. People are scrambling to buy gifts, make Thanksgiving dinner and buy plane tickets to see their loved (and not-so-loved) ones. Living in the age of impeachment makes things even crunchier, but the most important things stay the same.
The holidays are a time for reflection and an opportunity to be grateful for the things and people in our lives. They’re also a chance for us to look around and take stock of those who have less. If you haven’t noticed, some of our neighbors have pretty much nothing.
What follows is a listing of very festive happenings going down in Tampa Bay. Some of them are free to attend, and others will cost you an arm. A few are extravagant, but a handful involve simply walking down a neighborhood street. Almost all of them afford you a chance to take a break from work (we hope). Go find joy in these activities as you play with your family, and then remember that there are families in Tampa Bay that are struggling to find joy, in spite of the holiday. In short, enjoy doing all of this fun stuff, and then go do something for someone else.
