“This grant program reflects our desire at Creative Pinellas to recognize the potential of our County’s emerging artists and support them in developing their careers,” said Christopher Hubbard, programs manager for Creative Pinellas.
Creative Pinellas will offer 10 grants of $2,000 each to artists embarking on careers for original works of choreography, literature, media arts, music composition, theater/musical theater, visual arts and interdisciplinary arts. Anyone over 18 fulfilling requirements is eligible. The grant is unrestricted, and funds may be used in any way to advance the recipient’s career.
Recipients will also pair with an experienced artist in the same discipline who will show them the ropes; each awardee will document their progress through blogs posted at the Creative Pinellas website.
Grant funds will be available in Spring of 2019, and artists will produce their project over the summer, culminating in an exhibition in September of 2019 at the Creative Pinellas Gallery in Largo.
“We have an amazing community of emerging artists here in Pinellas County,” said Barbara St. Clair, executive director of Creative Pinellas. “We believe this grant hits the sweet spot for what an arts organization like Creative Pinellas can do to support individual artists.”
The online application period is open from now until on Feb. 18, 2019. For more information about Creative Pinellas and its grant programs and to apply, please visit creativepinellas.org/grants or contact Christoper Hubbard, the program manager.
