Steve Mountain modeling the Costume Diva's handiwork as Sir Francis Bacon

The Costume Diva has arrived! On her new blog, creative costumer Kathy Buck answers your questions and

concerns about the tricky clothing conundrums of local — often low-budget — theater productions. Feel free to test her skills — the Diva has yet to meet an ensemble enigma she can’t solve!

The first installment of her attire advice tackles a challenging wardrobe category: Shakespearean plays.

Dear Diva,

I have been given the task of costuming an upcoming production of The Tempest. There are 20 people in the cast. A few of the actors are playing multiple roles so I will need to construct a total of 26 costumes. I have a limited budget of $1000 and less than a month to complete the project. The director is placing this Shakespearean piece in the present. My task seems so overwhelming, I am not even sure where to begin. Can you give me some time and money saving tips?

Signed,

In Stitches
