Do It Today: Happy hour fundraisers, Pops plays Porter, comedian Pedro Lima and acoustic 'cue at New World

The southernmost border of Ybor City isn't the most enticing of gateways, but organizers of the Adamo Drive Mural Project hope to change that. Their goal is to raise $50,000 to erect a series of cigar-Cubano-inspired murals on the north side of Adamo between 18th and 19th streets. Sherwin-Williams offered to donate paint for the projects.

Local muralists Michael Parker and Carl Cowden will design and paint the murals with the help of community members. The project features an interactive component with Parker leading a summer art course at HCC to plot the design of the first mural. Parker and Cowden's hopes are to conjure the bustling Latin immigrant quarter of founder Vicente Martinez-Ybor. Completion is scheduled for September.
