Or, how's about an entertaining and culturally enlightening literary event? Readers into contemporary memoirs should attend author Ira Sukrungruang's free engagement at UT's Writers at the University Series tonight.

The Thai-American writer, born in 1976 in Oak Lawn, Ill., wrote  Talk Thai: The Adventures of Buddhist Boy, which offers a humorous look at his East-meets-West upbringing — spent eating at McDonald's, playing Nintendo, watching kung fu movies and writing "horrendous" unrequited love stories.

"It's in this blending of cultures that much of the book's humor, charm and insights emerge," said CL writer Shawn Alff in his review of the book earlier this year. Alff goes on to say that "Talk Thai's real surprise is that this playfully honest memoir delivers a dead-on portrait of what it was like to grow up in the suburbs during the late 1980s."

7 p.m. University of Tampa Reeves Theater, 401 W. Kenndy Blvd., Tampa.
