Tonight’s Rock the Park at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park offers family- and outdoor-friendly groovy music, the that the kids dance to and maybe gets your tush shaking a little. That all said, none of the band playing tonight is by no means generic; these aren’t the Buffett-wannabees you see at beach bars. Playing the tonight are three excellent acts, Tampa band The Hip Abduction, Orlando’s Peter Baldwin and San Diego native Corey Cottrell.
(pictured right) is one of Florida’s superstars of the future (or at least should be). He recently opened for soul revivalists Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings and warmed up crowds for Joss Stone and Mayer Hawthorne. Baldwins playful and sexy falsetto and mix of soul, funk, and rock is a winner whether he plays along with a guitar or full backing band. His crowd-pleasing covers include MGMTs Electric Feel and the theme from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
