Back for one night … and maybe not one night only, are the gentlemen that make The Longest Running Spoken Word Open Mic in Tampa Bay possible: Khomeni Hopkins, Brian Duncan, Jay Bruzzichesi and David Durney. The guys join forces tonight at The Lobby in St. Pete for their comeback spoken word/poetry show, "Resurrection." Each member of the foursome has mad experience in writing and performing; you might even recognize Bruzzichesi and Duncan who co-host the AMP@Studio620.

"The spoken word/poetry scene … is an art form derived from both urban and suburban cultures. Part hip-hop, part prose, it's a form of verbal expression that moves people both in its content and its live performance," said Bruzzichesi. "Tampa Bay is one of the few areas in the [Southeast] that houses not only a massive following of exceptionally talented performers and writers, but a cult following that transforms fans into authors themselves."

Well folks, if that kind of passion and positive attitude doesn't make you want to go out tonight, get down and show some love for the spoken word, I don't know what will. Oh ya, except "Resurrection" is also a send-off to talented, inspirational Tampa poet, Lizz Straight.

Wed., July 23, 10 p.m. – 1 a.m., FREE, The Lobby/Garden Pub, 217 Central Ave. St. Pete, 33701, 727-896-3800
