Art-Core Art Show and Open Mic NightFree. 6 p.m. Sat., Jan. 23, The Haus Coffee Shop 3690 East Bay Dr., Suite Y, Largo. 727-333-7999, thehauscoffeeshop.com.
Two of the things that might not spring immediately to mind when contemplating the hardcore music scene are “visual art” and “acoustic music.” But the Tampa Bay Hardcore crew is about to change that with its inaugural Art-Core Art Show and Open Mic Night, tonight's mashup of music and exhibition that truly proves punk is so much more than just a sound.
In addition to showing work by local artists — including Jay Titus, Rachael Howse, Chris Barrows, Paul Barnes, Hardison Collins, Zulu Painter and more — and opening up the stage to everyone from musicians to spoken-word artists, comedians and others, this Largo soiree also features unplugged performances by Dave Reeder (Car Bomb Driver), Brandon Michael (The Scurvy), Tommy Slade (Slade & The Wasters), Eric Best (Rude Squad) and Tristan Jarvis (Soma Riot). And yes, The Haus does have beer and wine.
