South African transplant Bekky Beukes's diverse, often darkly dreamlike and consistently arresting paintings have made her something of a rising star in the Bay area visual arts scene, particularly since her show Pieces last winter at Gulfport's Portspace Gallery. This weekend, she returns to St. Pete watering hole-slash-exhibition space The Blue Goose — where she's participated in a group show or two — for a new solo series, Welcome to the Circus, whose name alone is almost as intriguing as the artist's buzzy rep. If the images that have shown up on Beukes's Facebook page recently are any indication, it's going to be another amazing set. Plus, like Beukes, the Goose is also coming into its own, as one of those EDGE District spots you've gotta duck into while you're out and about on a humid Saturday evening, to see who's around as much as to get a cocktail.
