For those wanting to get a glimpse of Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jameis Winston in a baseball uniform, this afternoon might be your last opportunity.
Winston, who helped the Florida State Seminoles capture the 2014 BCS National Championship over Auburn in January, is in his second year on the 'Noles baseball team and played a few innings against the Yankees in an exhibition game played at George M. Steinbrenner Field last week.
On Tuesday, Winston didn't do too much to excite the record-breaking crowd of 3,615 at the USF baseball stadium where FSU (ranked second in Baseball America) began a two-game set against the Bulls. Entering as a designated hitter in the top of the sixth, he was promptly hit in the lower right leg by Bulls reliever Michael Farley and then grounded out in his only other bat in the eighth inning.
The Noles were led by former Cambridge Christian standout and Lutz resident Peter Miller, who struck out 11 over five innings of the Noles 5-1 victory. Miller, who said he had approximately 50 friends and family members in attendance, allowed one run on four hits to help the Noles improve to 9-1.
Today's afternoon's contest at USF Baseball Stadium in Tampa begins at 3 p.m. For more information, visit: gousfbulls.com.
