Three exhibitions opening Saturday at the Morean Arts Center invite visitors to explore narrative flights of fancy.
Of Sticks and Stones, Leaves and Grass showcases recent paintings by Diane Elmeer, a former USF professor known for fusing everyday elements — such as figures of friends and places from her Seminole Heights neighborhood — into elaborate imaginary landscapes.
Barcelona features paintings by Carol Dameron inspired by the pain and fear that ensued after her daughter suffered a serious snakebite in the Catalan city.
Storytellers includes works by four artists — Ian Everett, Amy Lee, I-Ling Eleen Lin and Stuart Asprey — who populate their narrative art with animals and mythical creatures.
A free opening reception takes place on Sat., Mar. 8, 5-8 p.m.; Morean members get a sneak peek at a special preview Fri., Mar. 7, 5-7 p.m. All three shows run March 8-April 27. Morean Arts Center, 719 Central Ave., St. Petersburg, 727-822-7872, moreanartscenter.org.
