Cancer isn't funny. But raising money to fight cancer can be downright hilarious.

The 11th Annual Crack Up Cancer comedy show will be held tonight (Sat., Sept. 30) at the Straz Center's Ferguson Hall. It's a new venue for the annual event, which benefits Cure on Wheels, a local 501(c)(3) that issues grants to programs supporting cancer patients and their families (previous benefits took place at Ybor's Tampa Improv).

The beneficiaries of the fundraiser are local, and a lot of the talent has community ties as well. Al Romas, a nationally-touring comedian and regular on cruise lines, lives in Tampa. In addition to a successful comedy career, Helen Keaney is known to HSN fans for her regular hosting duties at their St. Pete studios. Danny Bevins performs sets and hosts workshops at local comedy clubs when he's not on tour. John Consoli, Mike McCarthy and Kevin Rogers round out the lineup.

You get to enjoy a number of quality headliners on one bill, all coming together to help raise funds for an organization that makes sure the money goes where it's needed most. Donating to a good cause will always put a smile on your face, but laughing out loud is even better. Your chance to do both is just a few hours away.
