Let me put this plainly: Any event at the Dunedin Fine Art Center make the one-hour-plus (from my house) trip to the bowels of Dunedin worthwhile. This weekend’s Wearable Art will prove no exception, I have faith. Look, those of us who live near DTSP and work in Ybor sometimes fall into the trap of thinking those areas have cornered the market on culture and art. We are, of course, wrong — while the ‘Burg and Channelside have their share of museum and nightlife, Dunedin’s unassuming artistic hub throws some of the best parties. This one features funky art from Mark Byrne, Stefania Costanzo, Melissa Dolce, Neva the Diva Durham, the Garden Fairies, Julian Hartzog, Johnny Hunt, Dacota Maphis/Sue Woodall-Metas, Nancy Niss and Lina Teixeira — and, of course, you can wear it. Paul Wiborn (you may know him as Palladium Paul) and Eugenie Bondurant (see: Tigris, Mockingjay Part 2) emcee. The night includes a pre-party, a runway show, after-party (with Tiki music from The Stolen Idols) and more Dunedin fun and art than you could possibly imagine.
