Skateboarding culture and visual art have always gone hand-in-hand, from ditch graffiti to the more “legitimate” (and highly sought-after) artwork of skaters like Ed Templeton, Neil Blender, Armando Roura, Chad Muska and others. This weekend, St. Pete’s own Local Longboard Company brings the two disciplines even closer together with Push It, an exhibit in which 18 killer local artists — including Bekky Beukes (artwork pictured), Perry DeVick, Chad Mize, Josh Blevins, Naomi Glueck, Jasmin Keyes and Local’s own Jon Stine, to name just a few — have created one-of-a-kind works on blank skateboard decks.
Local’s previous show in this vein, last July’s Shuvit, was a rousing success, so expect edge-of-the-EDGE District watering hole/host The Blue Goose to be jammed with lookers and buyers alike. This article appears in Jun 2-8, 2016.
