Ever seen a Gecko dressed as Little Red Riding Hood? No? How about a gecko in a poodle skirt? Well, then, certainly you've seen geckos dressed like Liza Minnelli?
Well, clearly you haven't lived. Good news, though: the Gulfport Merchants Association has handed you a golden opportunity – your chance to decide which of these (or other) gecko scenarios you'd like to see. Through Oct. 31, you can vote of the theme for the 2016 Gecko Ball (scheduled for Aug. 27). The theme of the Ball carries through gecko season' other events, including the Gecko Art Show (Aug. 5), Gecko Crawl (Aug. 6) and GeckoFest (Sept. 3).
Past themes include Geckos in Wonderland!, The Lizard of Oz!, Hooray for Geckowood!, Gecko Night Fever!, Roaring Geckos!, and the most recent theme, Gecko Gras!
After asking locals for input, the ball organizers culled possible 2016 themes to the following:
- 20,000 Geckos Under the Sea! (a celebration of all things on, under and near the sea)
- Gecko Fairy Tales! (a celebration of stories and characters from Grimm to Goose and beyond)
- Gecko Hop! (a celebration of classic 1950’s culture and icons)
- Geckos at Woodstock! (a celebration of the “peace and love generation” and its ultimate expression at Woodstock)
- Geckos on Broadway! (a celebration of Broadway’s great stage productions and characters through the ages)
To vote for one of these themes, visit the Gecko Ball Facebook page or email the gecko gods. Please vote only once. The Gulfport Merchants Association will announce the theme in November.
