R.I.P. Miramax
Many feared the demise of Miramax after the great indie was purchase by Disney way back in 1993. As the 2010 Sundance Film Festival (of which Miramax was a mainstay) comes to a close, the fears have finally been realized. As of this week, Miramax's New York and Los Angeles offices will be shut down, as Disney has rejected a proposed buyout of the company by previous owners Harvey and Bob Weinstein. With the studio's demise comes the elimination of 80 jobs and the shelving of several movie slated for release — possibly permanently.
