Well, this is a bummer.
Feathered Serpent Gallery, which is probably the only gallery in St. Pete that focuses on Latin American art, is closing at the end of this month.
The space was a smallish space nestled in the EDGE District, and it was packed with colorful visual arts as well as handcrafted goods, each with its own story.
Gallery owner Linda Ramirez spread the news on her Facebook page Thursday.
"We're sad to announce that the Feathered Serpent Gallery is closing [its] 1018 Central Avenue location at the end of the month. We have some great sales going on including furniture, fine jewelry, sculpture and folk art. We're sad to leave that particular spot but planning for the future, as we love being part of the art and cultural community here in Tampa Bay. We'll have more to say in the new year."
Ramirez brought in a host of artists from Central and South America as well as Mexico for public events discussing the artists and the sociopolitical context of their work. Her gallery was also a venue for a number of intriguing discussions on things like pre-Columbian Florida.
Let's hope Ramirez and the Feathered Serpent will show up at another spot in the near future. This article appears in Dec 4-10, 2014.
