Brainjacked, a low budget indie sci-fi/horror flick filmed in St. Petersburg, is filled with all of the bad acting, silly plot points, and gratuitous gore and nudity one would expect from a genre film such as this. But the movie also carries forward with a strangely compelling story, and some nice lighting and editing work. After being mugged, recent-runaway Tristan is rescued from the streets by Dr. Karas, a "benevolent" surgeon with drill for a hand that he uses to perform trepanation operations upon runaways in his care. Despite being cured of his crippling migraines, Tristan learns that Dr. Karas' real motives are far more sinister, and lie in mind control rather than medicine.

Brainjacked is screening Sat. March 20 at 10:15 p.m. at CinéBistro in Hyde Park.
