Happy Birthday, Chihuly!
No, not Dale Chihuly — his birthday’s September 20, and he’s a smidge older than eight, which is the birthday the Morean Arts Center (which encompasses not only the Morean Arts Center — duh — but also the Morean Center for clay, the Morean Glass Studio & Hot Shop and the Chihuly Collection) is celebrating this weekend.
In 2010, the Morean opened the Chihuly. Today, the Chihuly has 18 installations showcasing Chilhuly’s talent, not the least of which is Ruby Red, an icicle chandelier he created specifically for the Morean.
Right now, too, Storytellers remains on exhibit. It features work from Preston Singletary, Jennifer Pohlman and Sabrina Knowles, David Walters, David Schnuckel, and Matt Piepenbrok.
Did we mention that, this weekend, the Morean Arts Center will celebrate the Chihuly’s birthday with $5 admission?
Oh, yeah, that’s right — it’s in the headline. Well, we’re saying it again: You can get into the Chilhuly Collection for five bucks this weekend.
Chihuly Collection, 720 Central Ave., St. Petersburg | July 14-15, $5 | Mon.-Sat., 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sun., 12-5 p.m. | moreanartscenter.org
