The designer of the national Juneteenth flag comes to Tampa tomorrow to kick off area emancipation celebrations.

Benjamin Haith, the veteran, activist and designer who created the nation’s Juneteenth flag a quarter century ago, is the City of Tampa’s special guest at its Juneteenth Flag Raising and Wellness Fair. Tampa Bay City District 5 Councilwoman Naya Young will join the Tampa Bay Juneteenth Coalition in raising the flag at the event that also includes free food, live music, Blake High School ROTC, Ms. Juneteenth and Little Ms. Juneteenth contests, the Buffalo Soldiers and a wellness fair.

The biggest area event is ROC the Block’s 6th Annual Juneteenth Festival, which caps off a week of celebration with an all-day community festival at Raymond James Stadium. The family-friendly event features live DJ’s, dance performances, musical guests, local food and art vendors, plus a KidZone for the little ones.
