The winners of Creative Loafing's CL Visions Photo Contest were announced tonight in the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts in downtown Tampa.
John Mazzello's photo of an old trailer, a pink flamingo and a little girl — an image that evokes old-time rural Florida but was actually taken during an auto show — took the $1,000 grand prize. Julie Busch Branaman's poignant shot of an elderly woman in an unguarded moment took second place, and Joseph Priser's eerie shot of a man walking out of a dark tunnel into the light took third. Maida Millan's photo of a foreboding sky over roiling waters in St. Augustine won Readers' Choice.
Other finalists included Tony A. Blue, Jonathan P. Drago, Steven S. Gregory, Jamie McWade, Patrick Smith, Nina Thrasher and Andrew Vernon.
Judges for the contest were Joanne Milani, FMoPA curator; Rebecca Sexton Larson, 2005 Tampa Photo Laureate and co-founder, Boxfotos Airstream; Creative Loafing Visual Art Critic Megan Voeller; and CL Creative Director Todd Bates. They chose the finalists from close to 400 entries.
