While watching The Future recently, I felt the tightening in my chest as Miranda July’s middle-aging character rallied herself to accomplish her goal of completing one dance a day, to be filmed and uploaded. This, surely, would be her path to internet celebrity and success; this, surely, would validate her life. Of course she didn’t get a single dance recorded. Just like real life! I muttered to myself, thinking of the lists of similar goals scribbled in my journals, never to be crossed out. July hit the sad nail of failed dreams on the head.
