There's so much happening in the movie world right now its tough to keep it all straight, especially with the oil spill, the World Cup and Miley Cyrus vying for attention. Thank God there's Kevins Korner, a place to catch up on all of the movie news you missed this week, whether you knew it or not. Its been a busy few days for some actors and movie franchises, so let's get going
Robert Downey Jr. is The Movies: Downey is everywhere, and he made big headlines this week when he was attached to a CGI-heavy project called Gravity, was linked to the Sam Raimi-directed Wizard of Oz remake and announced he's also starting his own production company. Oh, and Iron Man 2 just hit the $300 million mark at the box office. Not a bad week, eh?
Kim Kardashian wants to be Laura Croft: Kardashian (right), the celebrity made famous by some, uhh, home movies, is campaigning to star in a proposed prequel to Tomb Raider. The planned movie would focus on how Croft became the bad ass she is in the video games. Yeah, Im speechless on this one.
The new Smurfs preview trailer is out and it Smurfs: The new CGI/Live action Smurfs movie got a teaser this week. I suspect if you are one of the three people that liked Marmaduke or Garfield, you will like this, but the rest of us are just hoping NPH can make something out of it and maybe see Papa Smurf finally get with Smurfette. No? (Editor's Note: I debated altering the last line because I believe it speaks to a gross misreading of The Smurfs by Kevin. I also found it hilarious. I leave it up to you to debate in the comments section.)
