Lunch will screen not only her own documentary, “Depression, Anxiety and Rage,” but also “The Machinist”—because both theater and guest have a healthy sadistic streak.
“Depression, Anxiety and Rage” is a 2024 documentary from the minds of Lunch and collaborator Jasmine Hirst, discussing and delving into the (potentially) healing and connective qualities of art and creativity. The film features interviews with Shirley Manson, writer Jerry Stahl, JD Thirlwell, Weasel Walter and many more.
As Lunch was invited to further curate the evening beyond her doc, she chose the harrowing Christian Bale cult-fave “The Machinist” from 2004.
Lunch’s singular art career has spanned decades, genres and media, from No Wave queen with Teenage Jesus and the Jerks to a long and creatively vibrant career as a literary performance art terror. Also, we’re just saying, every dystopian thing she ever predicted in her books and spoken-word performances has come true.
Lydia Lunch comes to Sun-Ray on Saturday, May 3, at 7 p.m. and tickets are still available for $15.
