"Tell the judge I love my wife." – Richard Loving
November seems a long way off, but when the trailer for this hit my inbox, I figured we could all use a happy story about race this week. Loving has its dark moments, too, because it's based on the real-life love story of a mixed race couple who went to jail for getting married.
Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga star as Richard and Mildred Loving, who married in D.C. and returned home to Virginia to live, where their interracial marriage was illegal. The real-life Loving (what a great name) story made it to the US Supreme Court. The film debuted this year at Cannes.
