Yet another newfangled comedy flick for all the man-boys out there struggling with their transition from adolescence to adulthood is scheduled for a one night only release tonight, in Tampa, at 7p.m., at AMC Westshore 14.

The film is called Mantervention and it was written and executively produced by Tampa Bay’s own filmmaker / ER Doctor, Juan E. Gallego.

Dr. Gallego clearly had a very memorable experience during his undergraduate years at Florida State University, as this time period in the doctor’s life was evidently the inspiration for the debauchery-filled movie. The topic of the film is "getting over your ex."

Committed to the idea that romance is a sham after getting his heart ripped out, the main character, Spencer, looks to his best friend, who has planned a special activity that just so happens to unfold perfectly with the rest of the movie’s action: a “mantervention.”

As you can guess, what ensue are endless shenanigans, mindless self-pity, and aggressive attempts at coaxing out real laughs from the audience. In the end, Spencer’s best friend wants to see Spencer converted from a “hopeless romantic” to a “player” – in the world of relationships. Though, what happens in the end might surprise you — if you've never seen a movie before.

Juan E Gallego M.D. has worked for Emergency Medical Associates of Tampa Bay for over seven years and is a current resident of Redington Beach. At 39 years old, in addition to saving lives on the side, Dr. Gallego is both a successful Hollywood screenwriter and executive producer.

“My friends back at the frat house in Tallahassee remember me as the comedian always writing funny notes,” Dr. Gallego said. He’s still working with his best college friends too, who, from LA, were key figures in the production of the film.

The film is directed by Stuart Acher. Nick Roux (Jane by Design, Lemonade Mouth) plays Spencer, the main character and self-absorbed sad-sack, Spencer. Chloe Bridges (The Carrie Diaries, Pretty Little Liars). TNT’s The Last Ship’s Travis Van Winkle plays Coke, the man running the mantervention.

Tickets are available on BrownPaperTickets.com or at ManterventionTheMovie.com. Tickets are NOT available at the AMC box office. Mantervention is now available in pre-release on TV — VOD.
