Monday afternoon, a ramshackle group of protesters crowded around a makeshift stage behind the Army-Navy Surplus Store on Tampa Street. The group including members of the Green Party, Greenpeace, the ACLU, and activist Vermin Supreme. The march — led by the Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign — started at Romneyville, eventually making its way to the barriers outside the RNC.
"Don’t let the rain stop you because it won’t stop the reign of terror in this nation," one protester shouted to the crowd before beginning the march.
Led by a group of children, protesters carried signs that read, "Stop the War on the Poor," while chanting, "We have a problem with capitalism oppressing the rest of the world."
Police on bicycles circled the march, though police in full riot gear waited for the marchers at the end of the route.
