If you’re putzing around during St. Pete’s Second Saturday ArtWalk this weekend, walk yourself over to the Morean Arts Center for a talk with Cuban artist Esteban Machado Diaz. Diaz will give a gallery talk at 6 p.m.; he has his first solo exhibit in the US at the Morean. Drawing inspiration from his surroundings, Diaz’s oil paintings navigate the boundaries of land and water, and dreams and reality. A native of Cuba, Diaz was in St. Pete last December as a delegate from the Cuban Ministry of Culture. He presented the city with a painting of a seascape, which commemorated the re-establishment of diplomatic ties between Cuba and the U.S. in 2014. This painting, along with several others, forms the basis of his current show, A Matter of Time, already on exhibit.
