The Droid X showing its shame.

While you were asleep a small announcement leaked out of Motorola's North Asia Division. This little nugget was a gift to a small but growing crowd who are unhappy with Motorola's policy of locking their software so that custom operating systems (such as Cyanogenmod7) cannot be loaded due to the kernel being encrypted. For probably 90 percent of Motorola smartphone Droidites, this will mean nothing as you are happily becoming one with your machine as Motorola intended. But for us nerds, this announcement was like the voice of an angel. Motorola announced that they will soon (i.e., late 2011) start unlocking or offering an unlocked bootloader so that users can develop their own software for the phones they own.
