New World Brewery regulars and event organizers Chris "DJ Cub" Preston and wife Catherine hosted I Heart NJ & NY, a fundraiser for Sandy victims last weekend at the popular Ybor hangout. The low-key afternoon/evening event helped while away the Sunday hangover hours with DJs, food, beer and socializing.
By all counts, it was a success, said event co-coordinator Angela "Dee Bauchery" Kroslak, who skates in the Tampa Roller Derby's rec league with Catherine "Demi Morgue" Matthews Preston.
A little less than $2,000 in cash was collected (final count not official yet) and attendees donated clothes, toiletries, household items and shoes, etc.
Sadly, Kroslak and her cohorts got a rude lesson in the pesky challenges of benefit event organizing.
