While he appears in a new romance novel, Jose Gaspar was never even a real person.

Yet, for more than a century Tampeños have spent at least one Saturday in January putting aside their inhibitions so they can dress up like pirates, drink too much, do some drugs, and throw plastic beads at people (and into the ocean).

Gasparilla—which happens this weekend—is asinine in so many ways, and for this improv show at The Commodore, comedians from across the Bay area will shove a metaphorical cannonball up Gaspar’s ass.

Tickets to the Roast of Jose Gaspar at The Commodore in Ybor City on Friday, Jan. 26 are still available for $10.
