Two art parties will appeal to cool kids and discerning grown-ups this weekend.
On Friday, April 8, at 9 p.m., the Bricks in Ybor puts on Hip to be Square. If you havent been to an art show at the Bricks, the Skatepark-owned eatery-drinkery fills up wall-to-wall with fashionistas and artsy folks.
A fun sampling of pop-culture motifs can be seen like the events poster with Erkle and DJ Cub spins old-school hip-hop, punk rock and indie-alternative tunes. The caliber of art runs the gamut from promising up-and-comer to top-notich, and the theme offers a jokey and literal double entendre with attendees dressed in costumes in tribute of the latter. On Saturday, April 9, 6-11 p.m., Chris Parks and the graphic geniuses at Pale Horse present the Saints and Sinners art show, a one-night only exhibition that includes a majestic 12-skateboard depiction of the Last Supper (a new addition to the Luchador series), the Young at Heart illustrated portrait series, a portrait set inspired by the spirit of the martial artist, and a monster-size Mexican Day of the Dead-esque piece, plus, new Pale Horse Ts, prints and accessories.
All proceeds go to Japanese relief efforts. The event is part of The 600 Block: After Dark with openings by Collective Tattoo, Blue Lucy and other nearby galleries.
Pale Horse Design and Gallery is at 611 Central Ave., St. Petersburg; palehorsedesign.com. The Bricks at 1327 E. Seventh Ave., Ybor City; thebricksybor.com.
