Welcome to On the Radar, where we preview upcoming events to mark your calendar for. When it comes to tattoos, everybody has an opinion. Mine is — I love them and have always been fascinated by the art form. I think getting inked is a great adrenaline rush, and have always found it amazing that someone can create a piece of art and then use a crazy gun-thing with needles to drill the art on somebody elses flesh — where it stays forever.
This is why I love tattoo conventions the most — getting to watch all the tat work being done — and am so excited for the Second Annual Cigar City Tattoo Convention next weekend. It celebrates getting inked with three days of tattoo contests (best portrait, best black and white, best sleeve etc.), films, live music and art shows. The Sirens of the South, a feisty and sexy touring burlesque show, tease ink enthusiasts on Friday, and a Miss Cigar City competition, looking to crown its own barely-clothed version of a Suicide Girl, revs up throughout the weekend.
