Looking for a darker, more sensual take on cirque? It's in town tonight, in the form of Paranormal Cirque, and will be thrilling and seducing audiences this weekend and next just south of the Skyway.

Combining elements of circus, cabaret and theater, Paranormal Cirque — a new troupe from veteran global performance concern Cirque Italia — has pitched its dark tent, the Castle, in Palmetto for two weekends' worth of unique, gothic-tinged performances. In addition to a shadowy take on such beloved acts as aerialists, acrobats and silk dancers, Paranormal Cirque features spectacles like the Wheel of Death and other edge-of-your-seat performances, tied together with the evocative narrative style for which this type of experience has become known the world over. We also hear there's more than a touch of the sexy, too.

Paranormal Cirque opened with a 7:30 performance tonight (sorry, internet), but will be doing two shows all weekend, plus another on Monday evening, and will be repeating most of the schedule next weekend, as well. If you're interested in something a little different and a lot sensual, take a short jaunt south before it packs up its dark big top and disappears into the night.
