If you’ve never been to a roller derby bout before, then chances are its hard hits and body slams might warrant a gasp or two, but this full-contact sport is incredibly entertaining nonetheless.

St. Pete’s resident league, Sunshine City, hosts one bout a month, and these tough ass ladies can certainly pack a punch on their quad skates.  The Largo Event Center at 6340 126th Ave. hosts July’s bout this Saturday from 7 p.m.-9:30 p.m.

The bout’s front row “action seats” are first come first serve, so get there a little early if you want to soak in all of the exciting rink-side action (but you’ll have to sign a waiver to sit here.) Both craft beer and expected domestics will be available for purchase, too.

Brush up on the rules of derby before this weekend’s event, just to make sure you know the difference between the jammer and the blockers.
