What do Tucker Claxton, Nicolas Glenn, Leroy “The King of Art” Gehres, Melanie Posner, Saumitra Chandratreya and John Gascot have in common?
Well, a couple of things. One, they're all artists (Gehres is the King, apparently). Two, they're all part of Pride Pop Up, an exhibit celebrating Pride — the first-ever at the Morean.
“The Morean's mission to connect people with art through innovative, community-oriented art is at the heart of Pride Pop Up — as we showcase local artists whose work challenges the viewers' perception of the LGBTQ community," Assistant Curator of Exhibitions Kelsey Nagy says.
The Morean's curators chose these artists from a multitude of applications, and the resulting exhibit will feature painting, sculpture and mixed media. Curators chose artists, the team at the Morean clarifies, not based on their orientation, but on the caliber of their art and whether or not the curatorial team believed the artist could create a piece that would fit with the theme.
