The evening after dropping a rain-delayed game to the Cleveland Indians, the Tampa Bay Rays shone through Wednesday night, smashing Chief Wahoo upside the head to the tune of 8-2.
David Price was scalping Indians hitters all night.
The lefty had Cleveland batters recreating the Trail of Tears back to the Indians’ dugout (too much?), striking out seven batters through his eight innings pitched. While Price has put up more Ks before, it’s more significant how may hitters he walked.
That would be none, by the way.
Price threw 18 and two-thirds innings in his last two starts. Both games were wins; neither had a walk.
Seventeen strikeouts in that same span, in case you’re keeping track.
The legend is ready to be told once again: Sam Fuld, ice-cold at the plate of late, went three-for-four with a walk. He knocked in two RBI as what may be the most encouraging takeaway of the game.
With Reid Brignac aboard in the second inning, Fuld drove a two-out double down the first baseline.
