The Tampa Bay Rays thrilling third inning against the lowly Orioles gave them enough offense for a Baltimore butt-kicking Monday night; Tampa Bay scored seven runs in the top half of the inning to top out at eight runs for the evening. Rays resurgent starting pitcher Wade Davis had exactly the game he needed to start the second half of his season. Despite the offensive padding, Davis threw the rest of the outing like it was a one-run game. He allowed one run in the fifth inning and pitched through eight, turning in one of his best performances of the season.
The Rays kicked off the scoring in the second inning, as John Jaso walked and B.J. Upton singled to get the first two men aboard. Consecutive strikeouts by Sean Rodriguez and Jason Bartlett looked like it might be another one of those nights where runners got stranded by the boatload, but Big Ben Zobrist's ground-rule double brought Jaso around to score. Carl Crawford ended the inning by grounding out to first.
The show really started when Evan Longoria stepped to the plate to open up the top of the third.
