Serengeti Flyer, a giant swing ride that Busch Gardens Tampa Bay says is the tallest and fastest of its kind,  opens today.

Located in the former Rhino Rally space of the park’s Nairobi area, the ride features two gondolas, with one on each swinging arm.  According to Busch Gardens, Serengeti Flyer’s  twin dueling arms swing to speeds of 68 mph, and reach as high as 135 feet above the ground.

Each gondola seats 20 guests, who’ll sit back-to-back in two rows. In total, the new thrill ride can host 40 guests at a time.

Manufactured by S&S Worldwide, the rides were first introduced in 2004 and are technically called “Screamin’ Swings.”  Over the years, the thrill rides have become a popular choice for parks, mostly due to their relatively small footprint and high guest capacity.

Yesterday, the City of Tampa lit up City Hall with green and purple lights to celebrate the new attraction.

“Fasten your seatbelts, hold on tight, and get ready to soar to new heights! Serengeti Flyer is just the latest incredible ride to come out of Busch Gardens Tampa Bay,โ€ said Mayor Jane Castor. “Here at the City of Tampa, we are excited to light up the night sky in purple and green, setting the stage for an electrifying grand opening that you won’t forget anytime soon.”
