UPDATED 9/13 3:35 p.m.

That creepy feeling you get driving across the Skyway Bridge isn’t just your fear of heights.

On May 9, 1980, the M/V Summit Venture collided with one of the bridge support columns and sent more than 1,200 feet of the bridge into the Bay along with 35 people who plunged to their deaths. A documentary produced by Steve Yerrid (an attorney who represented the since-deceased Venture’s harbor pilot, Captain John Lerro) tells the story through Yerrid and others who dealt with the aftermath of the horrible day in Tampa Bay history. Two charity previews are sold-out and will benefit Moffitt Cancer Center along with other treatment and research organizations.

The rest of us without tickets will have to wait until The Skyway Bridge Disaster completes an upcoming round through the film festival circuit before we can actually watch it.

Sat.-Sun. Sept. 15-Sept.15. Sold out. Tampa Theatre, Tampa. tampatheatre.org.
