The Tampa Bay Lightning continued their western road swing Thursday night when they traveled to Los Angeles to take on the Kings. It was a matchup that saw the two best teams in the NHL face off against each other. The Lightning were hoping to get off to a quick start after a sluggish start the night before, when they fell to the Anaheim Ducks in overtime. The Lightning got bad news right from the get-go when they learned they would be without defenseman Victor Hedman, who is recovering from blocking a shot in Wednesday night's game.
The Lightning got off to a much better start in this one, tying the kings with 9 shots on goal in the first, but were unable to get a puck past Kings goaltender Jonathon Quick. The Lightning did face some adversity when defenseman Mattias Ohlund took a five-minute major for boarding Kings captain Dustin Brown, but the Lightning were able to kill off the major without much of a threat from the Kings.
