It’s tough to create a unique comedy concept and put it together on stage. And it’s really tough to keep a regular comedy show of any kind going for a couple of years. Doing both is nearly impossible in today’s marketplace.

But Best of the Bay-winning Unholy Comedy, run by local comedians Hugh Carey and Lauren Gray, will celebrate its second anniversary this weekend in St. Petersburg.

Mix together a dark ambiance, tarot readings, quirky confessionals, and professional comedians, and you have a rough idea of what Unholy Comedy is like. Attendees are allowed to confess their sins if they want, some accept a punishment or penance, and everyone has a good laugh with a solid lineup of local and touring comedians.

In case it’s not obvious, Unholy Comedy is a very adult show with R-rated (at least) content. It’s not for an easily-offended audience, but it is a fun experience for people who like a little light-hearted sacrilege to go with their stand-up comedy.

Both shows start at 9 p.m.

Tickets to Unholy Comedy’s second-anniversary shows on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 1516 at Zubrick Magic Theatre in St. Petersburg are still available and start at $35.
