Tampa Theatre's 'Black Love' movie series plays every Sunday in February

It kicks off with 'The Wiz' on Feb. 5.

Tampa Theatre's "Black Love" classics movie series is back in downtown Tampa next month and includes four Sunday matinees including two musicals, a drama and comedy.

On Sunday, Feb. 5 at 3 p.m., Sidney Lumet’s “The Wiz”—a 1978 film starring Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Nipsey Russell—kicks off a series that includes four films chosen in collaboration with the City of Tampa’s Community Engagement & Partnerships Department which aims to help Tampeños “explore journeys of discovery and the roads that lead back, as told by Black filmmakers and diverse casts.”

Other movies in the series include “To Sleep With Anger” starring Danny Glover, Eddie Murphy’s 1988 classic “Coming To America” and Vincente Minnelli-directed musical “Cabin In the Sky.”
